Im in some sort of palace in Italy! This is the first time my captors are letting me see, feel or hear anything. Im scared. I don’t know what to expect. I hear people at my door, they are coming for me.
They say I am to meet their masters, they must be talking about The Three. They bring me down a flight of stairs and into a great stone hall. The doors close behind me and my escorts take their place amongst other vampires. It’s just like my vision! I see The three: A young blonde haired one on the left, an old dark haired one on the right and the amused leader in the middle, On each side of their thrones are the other vampires I saw. My captors and new ones. They all have their hoods up.
“’Welcome, to Volterra. We,’” Says the leader, “’Are the Volturri.’” All the other vampires remove their hoods and their blazing red eyes stare at me.
“’Welcome, Alice.’” Says the leader.
“’Welcome,’” the other two say.
“’H-how did you know my name?’” I ask. Immediately I am on the ground writhing in pain! It’s unbearable! And my body starts racking with empty sobs. Ah! I have a human memory back! This pain reminds me of when I was in the asylum! They tortured me! And sent electric shocks into my body!
“’Jane, enough.’” the leader says. The pain has stopped but im still crying. This human memory terrifies me.
“’I am Aro, and these are my brothers Marcus and Caius.’” Caius is the blonde one and Marcus is the old one, “’We rule the Volturri. Meet our guards: Afton, Chelsea, Demetri, Felix, Jane and Alec. We are all gifted.’” He grabbed my hand and I felt pin pricks across my brain, “’And so are you!’” He laughs, “’A marvelous gift! You can see the future!’” the future? I thought I was just imagining most of those things. Another human memory hits me: two little girls, me and Madison and I telling Madison she is to die soon. I break out into dry tears again.
“’Hush, little one. Let me introduce you to our Guard. Jane and Alec are twins. One causes pain and the other deadens the senses. Jane does the first and Alec does the second.’” Jane is the girl with silvery blonde hair and Alec is the bored looking boy. “’Demetri is an excellent tracker! That’s how we found you. Felix is ungifted but he is a great fighter. Chelsea is a darling! She can sense bonds, connections, and then she can make or destroy them. And last but certainly not least, her mate Afton has quite the gift but it will be a surprise to you. Well? What do you make of our lovely coven?’”
I stood completely shocked looking at all of these talents together. One thing that I noticed after Aro’s description, was that none of the Guards had the same talent and none of them lacked in a special ability.
“’Are-? Are you a talent collector?’” I asked. Wary of Jane’s power.
“’Why yes,’” he laughed, “’Yes I am!’”
“’a-and do you and your brothers also have powers?’” I was afraid to keep asking questions.
“’Well, Marcus and I do. Marcus can sense relationships and I can read every thought a person has had with one single touch. Caius, unfortunately, is not gifted in that sense.’” How could the vampire kings not completely have powers?!?
I wonder why I am here.
“’Tell me, Alice,’” Aro began as he sat on his throne, “’Do you thing that vampires have rules?’”
I shook my head.
“’No? And why would you think that?’” He leaned forward and his look made me think that I had the wrong answer.
I shrugged and said, “’Because we cant die? And because we are so powerful?’”
“’A nice suggestion, but you’re wrong.’” How did I guess? “’Of course we have rules, humans have rules and we do too. Ours are just…different.’”
“’Wh-what kind of rules?’”
“’Do you always stammer like a baby?!?’” Jane asked me.
“’Jane please! I have had enough with your outbursts!’”
“’I am sorry, Master.’” Jane shrunk into the background.
“’Of course I can tell you the rules:
First, we do not raise armies of newborn vampires to destroy each other-’”
“’N-newborns?’”
“’Yes. You are a newborn. A newly made vampire. Newborns are stronger, faster, and deadlier than vampires after there first few years.
Second rule, We do not expose ourselves to humans. Third, If you break the previously mentioned rule then I do hope you intend on killing that human. Fourth, all vampires obey us and our Guards. All of these rules are to be followed and executed on pain of death.’”
I nodded. I had a feeling I would never break any of these rules, but I also knew I never wanted to cross the Volturri in any way.
“’Otherwise, you fend for yourself.’” Demetri muttered.
I looked at him and then at Aro.
“’Well, thank you, for explaining the rules to me. But I would really like to be going.’”
“’What’s wrong with our hospitality?’” Jane asks sharply.
“’Nothing!’” I reply, not wanting to anger her.
“’Don’t you enjoy the company of others?’” Asked Felix.
“’Of course!’” Not these people but others in general yes.
“’Alice, I would like you to join our Guard.’”
I was so shocked that I tripped over my own feet.
“’Wh-what?’”
“’Your talent is too great to lose, it could be of great value to me.’”
“’I would rather leave,’” I started, “’Your highness.’” I bowed. I did NOT want to anger them.
“’I’ll take that as a maybe. Jane, Alec,’” They came over and grabbed my arms, “’Show her to her room. Alice will be staying with us until she makes up her mind.’”
I was brought back to the same room and locked in.
Why do I have a feeling that I am going to be staying here and awfully long time?
