CAN YOU HEAR ME? Part: Two
April 3rd, 2013
Things really don't look to good, it doesn't seem like Sophia will be waking up.
And Jordan isn't doing so well either. She looks older, and tired. I assume its
from starving herself, she hasn't eaten since what happened. I, on the other
hand, do eat. I just don't leave the house. But back to Jordan, everyone has
tried at least twice to get Jordan to drink something, and she refused each and
every one of these people with a clear, demanding, 'No'.
Josh even tried to convince her that Sophia would want her to be healthy. Jordan
gave him the nastiest glare I have ever seen, dragged him down the stairs, and
yelled at him for 2 seconds before coming back into Sophia's room.
I started thinking about my promise to Sophia; the one when I said that I would
take her to Russia once this was all over. Would I even get that chance now?
Will I be missing out on bringing her to Moscow the medieval capital? Or to
rival romantic city St. Petersburg? And to my favorite, the Golden Ring of
ancient towns? Will I be spending the rest of my life regretting not giving her
that one moment of happiness and love with me that she desired?
I silently stood up and left her room. I wandered down the stairs and into the
kitchen where Johanna was sipping coffee.
"Rhoan is getting some sleep in the living room." She tells me.
"I am sorry that I didn't wake you that night and tell you where I was going. It
must have scared you." I say while holding her hand and drinking some blood.
"No, not really. I know that you would never leave without telling me unless it
was important and that you will never leave leave."
She is right.
Now, what a couple we are! One is normal, sitting on a bar stool sipping coffee
from a mug and the other is more of a freak than humans will ever know and
drinking blood out of a mug. How interesting.
"Your not allowed to leave the house without me." I say before taking another
sip.
"What?!" She argues like I knew she would.
"I can't take the chance of you being hurt too, it would kill me." I grab both
her hands and kiss them, "I'm already dealing with the fact that my niece is
being considered as good as dead by the doctor, I could not deal with it if I
would have to see you injured or considered dead as well."
She takes a deep breath, and I know it kills her to say these next words, but
she said and promised them anyway, "Okay. I will not leave this house without
you. I know how much pain you're feeling and I don't want you to feel anymore,
especially because of me."
I whispered a 'thank you' and wandered back upstairs into Sophia's room.
Everything and everyone was exactly as I left them, not that I was expecting
things to have changed, but one always hopes-
I looked at Jordan, she looked at me, I gave her a sad smile and then she fell
forward.
I lept from my chair, arms outstreched to get her but then Josh came walking in
with Alec standing at the doorway. He pulled her off the floor and sat her back
in the chair.
"She may hate me right now, she may not be speaking to me," Josh says to me,
"but I still love her and won't let her kill herself like this."
With that said, I slowly lower myself back into my chair and watch as Josh uses
his teeth to tear open a bag of blood and let it drain down Jordan's throat. A
strange thought occured to me, and its the first time I've had a thought like
this; Josh is so young. And so is Jordan. I really saw it now, and realized that
Jordan was only a high school girl, so incredibly young. I know that its odd,
why haven't I thought of or realized this before? Two young people are worrying
over their daughters life...teenage kids should not be doing that!
And now I feel really old *_* which never seemed to bother me until now. I
always knew that I was 28, the oldest looking of all of us, and have been that
age for 623 years, Jordan has only been a vampire for, what?, 4 years?
"I asked Alec to let her rest for a while." Josh says.
He looks over to Sophia and then leaves the room.
Good. She should rest. So much has changed for her in 4 years and it can't be
healthy that she can't rest.
It then struck me that I could cry now, if I wanted, not that I would since I
don't want Sophia to hear that I'm worried. It also struck me that I could
talk...to her.
Its the early evening now, its a cool night outside sending crisp air into her
room. The moon cast its white light through the window and illuminated her room.
I saw her princess sheets and her old dolls and all of her books. I reach my
hand forward and gently grasp hers, "Can you hear me?" I ask.
I don't get a reply but I keep speaking as if she had.
"You probably already know this, but its the evening now. And do you know what
that means? That in a few hours it will be a new day, a new chance for you to
prove these people wrong." I take a pause, while imaginning her smile, "I know
that you will wake up. You are so strong, and so beautiful, you deserve a normal
and happy life," I decide to joke with her, "Too bad you're stuck with us, huh?
We're no where near normal, but we are happy...because of you. You make us
happy, Sophia Renea Vaught.
"Anyway," I look at all her fantasy books, the ones about princesses, and I see
the porcelain doll I gave her resting on her bed, "How about a story?"
"Once upon a time, in the time of kings and queens, knights and dragons, there
was a beautiful princess with long wavy brown hair and kind, beautiful blue
eyes..." I tell her the story I made for her. I laughed when it seemed
appropriate and made my voice sad when parts seemed sad. I told the story with
great enthusiasm and loved every second of it!
And then I finished it the same way I did the first time I told it, "You've gone
away for a little while, that's all this is, but you always have us with you." I
lower my voice, kiss her little hand and whisper, "Please come home."
